Weather & Climate

Suriname is a land of sunshine. There is not a day without sun, even during the rainy season. The climate of Suriname can be categorized as a tropical rainforest climate, with a relatively high humidity level ranging between 75% and 80%.

Due to the cool northeast trade winds, the capital Paramaribo has an average daytime temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius (°C) and 22.8 °C at night. Inland areas of Suriname experience temperatures a few degrees lower. For visitors wondering which accommodations in Paramaribo and the interior are equipped with air conditioning, the Orange Travel website provides this information for each accommodation under the “rooms” tab.

Suriname has four seasons: the small rainy season from early December to late January; the small dry season from early February to late April; the big rainy season from late April to mid-August; the big dry season from mid-August to early December. During the rainy season, heavy showers often occur in the afternoon or at night, while the rest of the day remains dry. Occasionally, there may be a full day of rain as well.
