Day 1: Arrival – Paramaribo Transfer by shuttle bus to your hotel in the heart of Paramaribo, where you will stay for the next 3 nights. All overnight stays in Paramaribo are in this hotel. If you leave Paramaribo for a multi-day tour, you can safely store part of your luggage here.

Day 2: Peperpot Plantation Commewijne District flourished in the 19th century due to coffee and cocoa plantations. During your visit to Peperpot (one of the well-known plantations in Suriname), explore the nature park, the old coffee factory, plantation homes, and villages. You’ll also have a unique encounter with the friendliest Javanese gardener in Commewijne.

Day 3: Paramaribo City Tour The historic center of Paramaribo is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Besides the unique wooden buildings, the ethnic groups living here are characteristic of the city. Discover the rich history hidden behind the beautiful wooden facades of the buildings.

Day 4: Paramaribo – Nickerie Discover the coastal area of Suriname. Travel westward from Paramaribo – through the districts of Saramacca and Coronie – to Nickerie. Witness how each district’s residents have preserved their authentic culture and economic activities, giving each district its unique character. The day’s program ends in New Nickerie, where you’ll spend the next 2 nights in a simple yet cozy hotel.

Day 5: Bigi Pan – Nature Reserve Bigi Pan harbors 122 species of coastal birds, including the famous scarlet ibis and flamingos. With a boat trip, you’ll explore this vast swamp with rich flora and fauna, experiencing this paradise for bird enthusiasts firsthand.

Day 6: Nickerie – Paramaribo Nickerie is a typical agricultural district renowned for its tasty rice. Today, you’ll take a tour of the most modern rice factory in Suriname. After an interesting morning, you’ll journey back to Paramaribo, where you’ll spend 1 night.

Day 7-9: Maroon Culture in Upper Suriname – Anaula Today, travel deeper into the jungle by bus and motorized korjaal via the Upper Suriname River to the comfortable Anaula River Resort. This area boasts many Maroon villages where descendants of runaway slaves reside. The hospitable people take pride in their culture and are eager to introduce us to their centuries-old customs and traditions, which have remained untouched due to their isolated life deep in the rainforest. This part of the river features impressive rapids, and during low water levels, you can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches that emerge.
The next 3 days will be filled with adventurous activities like intense forest walks, village tours, boat trips, and caiman spotting by boat in the evenings! You’ll stay in a stylish lodge overlooking the Ferulassi rapids.
Day 10: Anaula – Afobaka You’ll travel by boat and bus to the Afobaka River Resort, where you’ll stay for 2 nights. This luxury eco and cultural river resort is nestled along the Suriname River amidst breathtaking tropical landscapes. You can explore this area at your leisure. For instance, you can relax on the beach.

Day 11: Afobaka – Brownsberg The Brownsberg Nature Reserve spans 6000 hectares of pristine tropical rainforest, and the mountain top (about 500 meters) offers a stunning view of the nearby reservoir. During an educational forest walk, you’ll encounter idyllic waterfalls and come face-to-face with various exotic animals like monkeys, birds, and agoutis. In the afternoon, return to the Bergendal River Resort.

Day 12: Afobaka – Commewijne District (plantation) After a morning of relaxation and nature, travel to the Commewijne district, once famous for its sugar, cocoa, and coffee plantations. The day’s program ends in Nieuw-Amsterdam, where you’ll spend 2 nights in a boutique hotel.

Day 13: Heritage of the Sugar and Coffee Plantations Today, you have enough time to explore Commewijne’ s once flourishing plantations. Visit the New-Amsterdam museum* or book an optional bike tour to Plantation Marienburg*. During the turtle nesting season (February to July), it’s possible to book a turtle tour. This tour takes you by boat to the Braamspunt beach where you can witness the magical nesting process of giant sea turtles*.
Optional on day 13: You can choose to spend this night at Frederiksdorp resort. From Bastion, you can take a taxi to Marienburg, where you’ll board a boat to Frederiksdorp. At Frederiksdorp, you can engage in activities such as the dolphin tour, bike tours, swamp tours, and much more. We can always adjust the quote accordingly.
