Tour Information

Day 1 – Arrival and Ascent of Fredberg

You are expected early in the morning at our office in Paramaribo for a joint departure to the adventurous interior. After a short briefing with coffee or tea, a four-hour drive takes you to the base camp at the foot of Fredberg. Along the way, enjoy the changing landscape and your first impressions of the pristine jungle.

Upon arrival at the camp, you’ll have the chance to enjoy lunch and perhaps take a refreshing dip. Then it’s time to prepare for the ascent: put on your jungle outfit, as the hike to the top takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. This trek is manageable for individuals with average fitness and is rewarded with a spectacular view from the summit.

At the top, there is a small camp with basic facilities such as cooking gear and hammocks for the overnight stay. You will receive a separate bag from us containing a hammock, sheet, and two 1.5-liter bottles of water. Your personal belongings should be carried in your own backpack. Any extra luggage can be safely stored at base camp.

End the day with an unforgettable sunset and enjoy the starry sky, far from the civilized world.

Day 2 – Sunrise and Jungle Expedition

Wake up early to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises in Suriname. The jungle comes to life as you enjoy the view, the sound of howler monkeys, and the colorful display of birds like macaws.

After a hearty breakfast prepared by our cook, you will embark on a new jungle hike. Your guide will lead you on an alternative route down, where you may spot the elusive Guianan cock-of-the-rock depending on the season.

Back at base camp, a hearty lunch and cold drinks await you. The afternoon is yours to relax: go fishing, take a boat ride, or unwind by the river. In the evening, your guide will take you on another spotting tour for birds and nocturnal animals. The day traditionally ends around the campfire, sharing stories with the group.

Day 3 – Last Moments in the Jungle

If you haven’t had enough of the jungle, a short morning walk with your guide is possible, focused on observing wildlife in its natural habitat. Afterwards, enjoy a lavish breakfast buffet.

After packing your belongings and preparing your lunchbox, you’ll drive back to Paramaribo — an enriching experience to look back on. Arrival in the city is expected around 3:00 PM (depending on road conditions).

Prefer More Time and Adventure?

Opt for the 4-day Fredberg Adventure. This extended version offers not only the climb to the top, but also a thrilling overnight stay in a cave, extra river relaxation, and more chances to spot wildlife. Ideal for those wanting a deeper jungle experience at a more relaxed pace with unforgettable memories.

4-Day Jungle Discovery Tour

Day 1 – Arrival and Ascent of Fredberg

You will be welcomed early in the morning at our office in Paramaribo for the departure to the interior. After a short briefing with coffee or tea, the approximately four-hour drive begins to the base camp at the foot of Fredberg. Along the way, you’ll pass through a variety of landscapes and get to know Suriname’s beautiful nature.

Upon arrival, you’ll have lunch and a refreshing swim. Then the hike to Fredberg begins. The climb takes about 3 to 4 hours and is suitable for individuals with average fitness. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view.

On the mountain, there’s a simple camp with kitchen facilities and hammocks for the night. We’ll provide a separate bag containing a hammock, sheet, and two 1.5-liter bottles of water. You carry your personal items in your own backpack; other luggage can be safely left at base camp.

Enjoy the sunset and the awe-inspiring starry night sky – a truly unique experience at this remote location.

Day 2 – Overnight in a Jungle Cave

Wake up early for one of Suriname’s most magical sunrises. The jungle awakens with the sound of howler monkeys and tropical birds like macaws. After a nourishing breakfast, you’ll embark on a new jungle expedition toward a cave system behind Fredberg.

With your guide, you’ll not only explore local flora and fauna but also learn about medicinal plants and basic survival techniques. Though the nests of the rare Guianan cock-of-the-rock are present in the area, sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed.

You will spend the night in a self-built camp inside the cave, completely back-to-basic, swinging in your hammock — an experience you’ll never forget.

Day 3 – Return to Comfort and Wildlife Spotting

After an adventurous night, you’ll hike back to base camp. A full lunch with cold drinks will be waiting for you. The afternoon is yours to relax by the river, go fishing, or explore by boat.

In the evening, your guide will take you on one last spotting tour for birds and nocturnal animals. Your third night will be spent comfortably at the base camp, possibly ending around the campfire once again.

Day 4 – Breakfast and Return to Paramaribo

Early risers can join a final short walk to spot wildlife. After that, enjoy an extensive breakfast buffet. Then you’ll prepare for the return journey to Paramaribo. Your lunchbox will be packed, and after one last look at the jungle, you’ll return to the city — filled with unforgettable memories.
Estimated arrival time: 3:00 PM (depending on road conditions).
