Program
Day 1
- Departure from the city at around 09:00/09:15 using local transportation heading towards Atjoni.
- It’s approximately a 3-hour drive to Atjoni. Along the way, occasional stops will be made for restroom breaks or to purchase snacks.
- Arrival at Atjoni is expected around 13:00.
- From Atjoni, there’s a boat ride of approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the water level.
- Between 13:30 and 14:00, you’ll arrive at Jaw Jaw and be served a delightful lunch.
- The remainder of the day will be filled with chosen activities.
Day 2/3
- If you rise early, around 06:00, you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise.
- The rest of the days will be spent engaging in your chosen activities.
- On the departure day, after lunch, you’ll head back towards Atjoni, around 12:00.
- Arrival at Atjoni is expected around 13:00, followed by another approximately 3-hour drive.
- You’ll be back in the city between 16:00 and 17:00, depending on traffic.

During the tour to Jaw Jaw, you will have interactions with the locals from start to finish. This means that transportation is shared with the local population. You will travel in a local bus without air conditioning. There may be occasional stops, for instance, when a local wants to buy something along the way.

Jaw Jaw is one of the Maroon villages located in Upper Suriname. During this tour, you will live alongside the local population. A local Maroon couple owns this beautiful village and will give you a glimpse into their life during your stay. The tour to Jaw Jaw is unique because it is designed to involve the local Maroon population as much as possible, allowing them to benefit from tourism in Suriname. Roles such as cook and guide are entrusted to the enthusiastic local residents, who do their best to ensure that guests have a pleasant stay. The charm of traditional customs and practices can still be experienced in Jaw Jaw.
Surroundings
Jaw Jaw is surrounded by beautiful nature. The jungle serves as the village’s backyard, and the village itself is located along the Suriname River, offering the possibility to swim in the sulas (rapids). In the morning, you can enjoy stunning sunrises here.
