Tour Information

Day 1:

  • 08.15-08.30: Departure by bus along the East-West connection towards Albina.
  • On the way, our guide will share interesting information about the history and sights.
  • No breakfast on day 1.
  • In Albina we continue the journey by boat to Christiaankondre. Boat trip takes about 2 hours.
  • Late lunch.
  • Exploration of the village during a walk and introduction to the local indigenous population and their culture.
  • Dinner
  • During the turtle laying season (February – July) observation of sea turtles that lay their eggs on the beach at night.

Day 2:

  • Beach walk and refreshing dip in the river under the guidance of our guide.
  • Return by boat to Albina, with a stopover in St. Laurent.
  • Optional: guided tour of the local prison (bagno).
  • Lunch in Albina followed by the return trip to Paramaribo.

Optional 3-day program: 3 day is €220 p.p. 

  • Same activities as the 2-day tour on the first and last day.

Day 2:

  • Breakfast in Galibi.
  • Free time for a refreshing swim and a visit to the tiger sandbank.
  • In the evening an impressive cultural show (with a minimum of 8 guests at the resort).
  • Transport: By bus/boat
  • Travel time: +/- 4 hours (bus/boat)**
  • Departure time: 08:00*
  • Back in Paramaribo: 17:00*

General information

Location

The tour starts in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, and takes you to the remote coastal town of Galibi, located in the northeast of the country, near the border with French Guiana. You will stay overnight at Myrysji Lodge – a simple but charming lodge right on the sea, ideal for travellers who want to combine peace, nature and culture.

Transport

Overland:
From Paramaribo you travel by bus to Albina, a border town on the Marowijne River.
Overland water:
From Albina you will travel by boat over the Marowijne River to Galibi in about 1 to 2 hours. Duration depends on weather conditions and water level.

Activities

  • Giant tortoise spotting
    During the breeding season (February to August), you will visit the beach in the evening to see these impressive animals laying eggs - a unique nature experience.

  • Visit to Christiaankondre & Langamankondre
    Meet the native Caribbean residents and learn about their culture, traditions and way of life.
