Visa and Passport for Suriname 2026

Visa & Passport Rules for Suriname in 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Are you planning a trip to Suriname soon? Or adding Suriname to your South America itinerary? Then it’s important to stay up to date with the current visa and passport requirements for 2026. In this blog, we explain everything clearly and simply.

Do you need a visa for Suriname?

For most travelers from Europe, including the Netherlands and Belgium, a tourist visa is no longer required for stays of up to 90 days. Instead, a mandatory tourism fee, also called the Entry Fee, applies.

✅ This applies to travelers from:

  • The Netherlands
  • Belgium
  • Other EU countries
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Caribbean region

How to apply for the Suriname Entry Fee

Since 2022, tourists from the Netherlands, Belgium, the EU, the US and Canada are exempt from the visa requirement. Instead, you must pay the Entry Fee before departure. This can easily be arranged online.

Application steps:

  1. Go to the official eVisa website:
  2. Select “Entry Fee” in the menu.
  3. Fill in your personal details and upload a scan of your passport.
  4. Pay the Entry Fee by credit card.
  5. After approval, you will receive a confirmation by email.
Print it or save it offline on your phone.

You must present this confirmation upon arrival at the airport.

What do you need upon arrival?

When arriving in Suriname, you must be able to show:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Proof of Entry Fee payment
  • A return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation or host address
  • Sufficient financial means for your stay

Special cases: who still needs a visa?

Travelers with certain nationalities outside the above list (for example some African or Asian countries) may still require a visa. Different rules also apply for:

  • Stays longer than 90 days
  • Volunteer work
  • Employment
  • Study

Vaccinations & Health

Yellow fever vaccination

A yellow fever vaccination is not required for entry into Suriname itself.

However, if you plan to travel onward to countries such as French Guiana or Brazil, it may be required.

💉 Recommended: get vaccinated at least 10 days before departure.

Always check the requirements of your next destination, as neighboring countries may ask for proof of vaccination at border crossings.

Travel & Cancellation Insurance

A trip to Suriname is an adventure, but unexpected situations such as illness, lost luggage or cancellations can happen. Therefore, a good travel and cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.

Why get insurance?

  • Covers medical expenses
  • Reimburses cancellations or delays
  • Provides peace of mind during your trip
