Day 1 – A memorable start
Your day begins with a comfortable, air-conditioned bus journey from Paramaribo to Atjoni, with short stops for a snack or a break. At Atjoni, you board a motorised dugout canoe for an adventurous 50-minute journey along the Upper Suriname River, passing waving children and the impressive Jaw Jaw rapids. Upon arrival at Anaula, the team welcomes you and your jungle experience begins.

Day 2 – Culture and adventure
After a hearty breakfast, you discover more about the local culture and the natural surroundings of Anaula. You visit a Maroon village, where you receive a warm welcome and learn about the traditional way of life. Something special awaits you in the evening.

Enjoy a peaceful start to the day. Spend some more time on the island, take a final swim or relax in a hammock. After lunch, you return by boat to Atjoni and continue your journey to Paramaribo.

Low water levels during the dry season
When water levels are low, it may not be possible to reach the planned sula (rapids) by boat. Instead, you visit rapids closer to the resort.
Anaula 4-day tour
Day 1 – The journey to Anaula
Your adventure begins with a comfortable bus journey from Paramaribo to the boat landing at Atjoni. Short stops are made along the way to get something to eat, stretch your legs or use the toilet.
From Atjoni, you travel by motorised dugout canoe along the Upper Suriname River to Anaula Nature Resort. During this boat journey of approximately 50 minutes, you pass Maroon villages, tropical rainforest and several rapids.
Upon arrival, the team welcomes you and your stay on the island begins.

Day 2 – Discovering Maroon culture
After breakfast, you travel by boat to a nearby Maroon village. During a guided walk, you meet local residents and learn more about their daily lives, traditions and customs.
The visit includes a church, a school and the local medical post. Back at Anaula, you have time for lunch and to enjoy the resort.

Day 3 – Forest walk and cultural evening
Enjoy a leisurely start to the day. Relax in the lounge, swim in the river or unwind in the hammock area.
Later, you join a guided forest walk around the island. Your guide shares information about medicinal plants, the tropical rainforest and traditional practices.
After dinner, the day ends with a cultural evening featuring singing, music and traditional Maroon dances.

The cultural dance performance takes place with a minimum of eight guests.
Day 4 – Free morning and return journey
Your final morning is all about relaxation. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, take a final swim or go for a short walk around the island.
After lunch, you say goodbye to Anaula and return by boat to Atjoni. From there, you continue by bus to Paramaribo.

Your visit helps maintain roads, supports the village fund and makes educational and festive activities for children possible. Approximately 80% of the staff comes from the local community and your visit supports employment and tourism education for local residents. Where is Anaula located?
Anaula is located in the interior of Suriname, approximately 180 km from Paramaribo. The journey includes a drive of about 3 to 4 hours followed by a one-hour boat ride along the Suriname River to the island. About 3 hectares of the island are used by the resort, while the remaining 9 hectares consist of tropical rainforest.

Can I visit Anaula outside the regular departure days?
Regular departures for the 3-day tour are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The 4-day tour departs on Friday and Sunday. For other requests, please contact Orange Travel to discuss the possibilities.
Should I choose the 3-day or 4-day Anaula tour?
The 3-day tour is ideal for a first introduction to the jungle and culture. The 4-day tour offers more relaxation and extra time to fully experience the surroundings. The best option depends on how much time you have and how extensive you want your experience to be.
Can people with disabilities visit Anaula?
Yes, guests with disabilities are certainly welcome. Visitors with limited mobility or wheelchair users can generally access the jetty easily and guides are happy to assist. Please inform us in advance so we can prepare accordingly.
What happens if it rains during the tour?
Rain is part of Suriname’s tropical climate and often makes the rainforest even greener and more vibrant. Showers are usually short and followed by sunshine again.
