Day 1 – A great start to your adventure

The day begins with a comfortable air-conditioned bus ride from Paramaribo to Atjoni, including short stops for snacks or relaxation. From Atjoni, you continue by traditional motorized canoe for an adventurous 50-minute boat ride along the Upper Suriname River, passing cheerful waving children and the impressive Jaw-Jaw rapids. Upon arrival at Anaula, the team warmly welcomes you and your jungle experience truly begins.

Day 2 – Culture and adventure

After a hearty breakfast, you will discover more of the local culture and the surrounding nature of Anaula. You visit a Maroon village where a warm welcome awaits and learn more about traditional lifestyles. In the evening, something special is planned.

  • Short jungle walk with explanation about medicinal plants
  • Lunch at the resort and free time for swimming or relaxation
  • Dinner buffet in the dining hall
  • Cultural dance performance with traditional music and dance

Please note: the dance performance only takes place with a minimum of 8 guests.

Day 3 – Relaxation and return journey

Start the day at your own pace. Enjoy the island a little longer, take one last swim or relax in a hammock. After lunch, we return by boat to Atjoni and continue the journey back to Paramaribo.

By booking this tour, you contribute to the development of the Maroon village. Your visit helps maintain roads, supports the village fund and makes educational and festive activities for children possible. In addition, you help preserve local culture by supporting music and dance groups and contribute to access to running water through a water pump.

Approximately 80% of the staff comes from the local community and your visit supports employment and tourism education for local residents. Environmental awareness is important at the resort through waste separation, sustainable water use with rainwater, solar energy and an eco-friendly saltwater swimming pool.

Where is Anaula located?

Anaula is located in the interior of Suriname, approximately 180 km from Paramaribo. The journey includes a drive of about 3 to 4 hours followed by a one-hour boat ride along the Suriname River to the island. About 3 hectares of the island are used by the resort, while the remaining 9 hectares consist of tropical rainforest.

Why should I visit Anaula?

Anaula offers a unique combination of nature, culture and comfort. You stay in the middle of the Surinamese rainforest, experience Maroon culture and enjoy peace, adventure and authentic experiences. Your visit also directly contributes to the local community and sustainable projects.

What is the best time to visit Anaula?

Anaula can be visited year-round. Activities may occasionally be adjusted due to weather conditions or water levels, but the jungle experience always remains special.

Is the Anaula tour physically demanding?

The activities are suitable for people with an average fitness level. There is plenty of free time to relax and participation in activities is optional.

Can I visit Anaula with children?

Anaula is very suitable for children and families. Kids enjoy nature, swimming, the boat ride and interaction with the local culture. Baby cots and high chairs are available upon request.

What about vegetarian or dietary requirements?

Meals are provided at the resort. Special dietary requests, such as vegetarian meals, can be arranged if communicated in advance.

Can I visit Anaula outside the regular departure days?

Regular departures for the 3-day tour are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The 4-day tour departs on Friday and Sunday. For other requests, please contact Orange Travel to discuss the possibilities.

Should I choose the 3-day or 4-day Anaula tour?

The 3-day tour is ideal for a first introduction to the jungle and culture. The 4-day tour offers more relaxation and extra time to fully experience the surroundings. The best option depends on how much time you have and how extensive you want your experience to be.

Can people with disabilities visit Anaula?

Yes, guests with disabilities are certainly welcome. Visitors with limited mobility or wheelchair users can generally access the jetty easily and guides are happy to assist. Please inform us in advance so we can prepare accordingly.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

Rain is part of Suriname’s tropical climate and often makes the rainforest even greener and more vibrant. Showers are usually short and followed by sunshine again.

Tours generally continue as planned and our guides will make sure the program remains as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
