General information

Upper Suriname

The Upper Suriname area, where the Anaula Nature Resort is located, is known for its unique maroon culture and pristine Amazon rainforest. The Maroons, descendants of runaway slaves, settled long ago in the inaccessible interior, where they built a new life. Due to their isolated way of living, a distinct culture developed, heavily influenced by African traditions.

Adventurous Elements

The journey by korjaal (dugout canoe) can have an adventurous character during low water levels, where passengers may need to disembark and walk a bit over rocks. This adds an element of adventure and interaction with the natural environment.

Nature and Culture

The emphasis on the combination of nature and culture is clear, with activities designed to bring guests closer to the natural beauty of the area while also providing insights into local customs and traditions.

Relaxation and Experience: The tour is designed to include space for relaxation alongside adventure and exploration. Guests can enjoy the tranquility and sounds of the jungle from their balcony or in the bar/lounge of the resort.
