Tour Information

Day 1

  • Departure from Zorg & Hoop airport in Paramaribo to Kajana airstrip (55 minutes flight)
  • Transfer by canoe over the Gran Rio to Awarradam (30 minutes boat ride)
  • Lunch, introduction, and leisure time
  • Visit to the ‘Peti’ rapids
  • Evening information about the region and the traditional lifestyle of the Maroons

Day 2

  • Early morning boat trip to experience the jungle awakening
  • Jungle walk after breakfast with a guide to explore flora and fauna
  • Afternoon at ‘Peti’ rapids for swimming and relaxation
  • Evening information session about the flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest

Day 3

  • Early morning walk in primary rainforest to the riverbank
  • Downstream boat trip floating with the river’s current back to Awarradam
  • Exploration of the lodge, surroundings, or a visit to the jungle spa
  • Afternoon visit to the local community, walking through villages

Day 4 

  • Early morning boat trip to experience the jungle awakening

General Information

Location and Accommodation

Awarradam Jungle Lodge is located in the beautiful interior of Suriname, at the foot of the Awarradam rapids. The lodge is built in traditional Saramacca style and is situated on an island.

Sustainable Principles

Environmentally friendly principles are applied at the lodge. The staff are friendly Maroons from the Saramacca tribe. Comfortable accommodation: in the evenings, the cool air creates a pleasant atmosphere, and mosquito nets are used for protection against mosquitoes. Lighting is generated by solar energy, and meals are prepared over a wood fire with local ingredients.

Surroundings and Activities

Diverse activities include a visit to the "Peti" rapids, where guests can enjoy a refreshing water massage and relax in hammocks. Jungle hikes, river trips, and visits to local communities provide insight into the rich local culture and natural environment. Opportunities for swimming, paddling, or relaxing in the jungle spa are also available.
