General information
Departure from the Marine Staircase
Between 08:00 and 09:00 AM, you will be picked up by the guide at the Marine Staircase. You will board the speedboat, and the guide will give a brief explanation of how the day will roughly look. After that, you will sail up the Suriname River.
Domburg
When the tour takes place on a Sunday, your first stop will be at the former plantation Domburg. There is a small market here every Sunday, where we will take a short walk. You can buy fruits and other Surinamese delicacies here.
Laarwijk
After visiting Domburg, we will stop at the former sugarcane plantation Laarwijk. We will take a short walk in the small village, which currently has only about 100 residents. After that, we will board the boat again and continue our route to Jodensavanne. Along the way, we will pass several other plantations.
Jodensavanne
Jodensavanne is the first Jewish settlement in Suriname, dating back to the 17th century. The guide will take you to the old ruins of the synagogue and the cemeteries. You will also visit the medicinal spring, where you can take a sip of the refreshing spring water.
Overbridge River Resort
After the tour at Jodensavanne, it’s time to continue the tour towards Overbridge River Resort. Here you will be treated to a delicious lunch. After lunch, you can take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pool or simply relax. Between 15:30 and 16:00, you will sail back towards the Marine Staircase, where you will dock around 17:00.
