General information
During the Paramaribo bus tour, you will visit various highlights in the city, including:
- Fort Zeelandia: Fort Zeelandia is a former Dutch fort located in Paramaribo. The five-sided fort was established in the 17th century. It was built to protect the settlement. Later, it was also used as a barracks and prison. Today, the Surinamese museum can be found here.
- The Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral: This wooden cathedral is located in the center of Paramaribo. It is the tallest wooden church in the Western Hemisphere. The cathedral was built between 1883 and 1887. Since it is entirely made of wood, it is definitely worth taking a look inside.
- Synagogue: This Jewish house of worship dates back to the 18th century. What is remarkable about this place is that a mosque stands right next to the synagogue. This demonstrates once again that in Suriname, all cultures can live peacefully alongside and with each other.
At the end of the tour, the bus ride will continue to the southern part of Paramaribo, passing by the central market, the Kwakoe statue, and the lively neighborhood of Abra Broki, the residential area of the average working class. Afterwards, we will head north, where the upper middle class lives. Here, we will pass by the home of one of the richest men in Suriname.
