The ideal thing about the sea turtle evening tour is that you can do it in as little as one day. So even if you only have a short time in Suriname, you can still spot the unique sea turtles.

The excursion starts at 5:00 PM at the Leonsberg pier. As the sun slowly sets, you will cruise towards Braamspunt. Along the way, you can enjoy the peaceful river scenery, passing mangroves and coastal birds, with a chance of spotting dolphins.
Upon arrival, the guide will take you onto the beach and explain what to look out for. As darkness falls, the real experience begins… in silence, the guide searches for sea turtles coming ashore.
Program overview
- 5:00 PM – Departure from Leonsberg
- ± 6:30 PM – Arrival at Braamspunt
- ± 7:00 PM – Light dinner on the boat
- ± 8:00 PM – Start turtle spotting with the guide
- ± 10:00 – 11:00 PM – Return
Exception: the tour may sometimes continue until 2:00 AM, depending on nature.
Responsible Turtle Spotting
Our guide will explain the nesting process and the guidelines of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). One of the most important rules is: only red light is allowed while spotting the turtles. The guide is equipped with a special red-light flashlight.
We ensure this experience is not only unique, but also respectful to nature.

🎒 Don’t forget for your day trip to Braamspunt
Sea turtles have limited vision on land and are very sensitive to movement. To avoid disturbing them, we kindly ask you to wear dark clothing (preferably black). This helps you blend into the surroundings while observing.
We recommend bringing the following:
- Small backpack to carry your water bottle and personal items
- Waterproof bag for electronics and documents

- DARK/BLACK long pants and long-sleeve shirt (protection against insects)

Departure date
The tour operates daily, depending on availability, with a minimum of 4 participants.
If you are traveling with 3 people, you can choose to cover the cost of an additional participant to guarantee the tour. If more participants join later, you will receive a refund for the difference.
You may also choose to be placed on a waiting list. In that case, we will contact you once there are enough other interested participants.

Is spotting turtles guaranteed?
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Our guides act with respect for nature and do not disturb the nesting process of the turtles. Thanks to their experience, they know exactly how to act when a turtle comes ashore to lay eggs.
Please note: we do not offer refunds if no animals are spotted (such as dolphins, sea turtles, sloths, or monkeys), or if natural moments such as sunrise or sunset are not visible.
Tours also continue in the rain, as this is part of the natural environment. Please bring a poncho or umbrella.
How large are the groups?
We usually work with small to medium-sized groups. Please note that groups may be combined. If you prefer a more exclusive experience, a private tour is also possible.
Do I need to be in good physical condition for this tour?
You will need to get in and out of the boat a few times. Most of the tour takes place on the boat, with a short walk on the beach (in the dark).
What happens if it rains during the tour?
Rain is part of Suriname’s tropical climate and often adds to the lush and vibrant nature. Showers are usually brief and often followed by clear skies.
Tours generally continue as planned, and our guides ensure the program runs as smoothly and comfortably as possible.
Is this tour suitable for children?
This adventure is suitable for children. Please note that it can get late, as we may need to wait for turtles to come ashore. The group can also decide how long to wait.
