Ready for adventure and relaxation?
Day 1 – Brownsberg and waterfall
In the morning, we depart from Paramaribo towards Brownsberg Nature Park, one of Suriname’s most famous nature reserves. Here, we take a rainforest hike to the impressive Leo Falls. After the hike and lunch, we continue to Afobaka Resort, where you can relax by the Brokopondo Reservoir and spend the night surrounded by peaceful nature.
- 06:45 – 07:00 AM: Departure from Paramaribo
- Arrival at Brownsberg Nature Park
- Jungle hike to the Leo Falls and back

- Overnight stay at Afobaka Resort by the Brokopondo Reservoir
Day 2 – Free time at Afobaka Resort
You start the day peacefully at the resort by the Brokopondo Reservoir. Enjoy the sunrise and the tranquil surroundings. Afterwards, you have free time to relax at the resort or participate in optional activities.
- 06:00 – 06:30 AM: Opportunity to enjoy the sunrise
- Free time at the resort (beach, walking or optional activities such as a boat tour)
- 11:00 AM: Check-out time at the resort
- After check-out, you may still use the resort facilities
- Departure back to Paramaribo
PLEASE NOTE: Because it is currently the rainy season, the road conditions can sometimes be more difficult. In some cases, a short walk may be necessary around deep potholes. Please also keep in mind that shoes can get dirty from the red bauxite sand.

🎒 What to bring for your Brownsberg & Afobaka trip
For a comfortable and well-prepared tour experience, we recommend bringing the following items:

- Small cash (SRD, euro or USD) for lunch at Brownsberg and drinks or purchases at Afobaka Resort

- Good hiking shoes / closed shoes for the hike to the waterfall(s)
- Water shoes for the waterfall area, as rocks can be slippery

- Swimwear (preferably worn underneath your clothes for swimming at the waterfall or Afobaka Resort)
- Dry clothes to change into after the tour or swimming

Is a good physical condition required for the Brownsberg tour?
Yes, a good physical condition is required for this tour. In Brownsberg Nature Park, you hike along natural jungle trails with elevation changes, tree roots and sometimes muddy paths. Especially the hikes to the waterfalls, such as Leo Falls, can be physically challenging.
What is the Brokopondo Reservoir?
The Brokopondo Reservoir is a large reservoir in Suriname that was created in 1965 for hydroelectric power generation. The lake is famous for the many treetops rising above the water, giving the landscape a unique and mysterious appearance.
What is Brownsberg Nature Park?
Brownsberg Nature Park is a protected nature reserve located in the district of Brokopondo. The park is known for its tropical rainforest, breathtaking views over the Brokopondo Reservoir, hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls.

Leo Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Brownsberg Nature Park. The water flows down through several levels, creating an impressive and relaxing natural spectacle.
Is there a restaurant at Afobaka Resort?
Yes, the resort has a restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is open daily from 09:00 AM to 09:00 PM.
What if it rains during the tour?
Rain is part of Suriname’s tropical climate and actually contributes to the lush and vibrant nature. Most of the time, rain showers are short and followed by clearer weather.
The tours generally continue as planned and our guides will ensure the program runs as comfortably as possible.
Is Brownsberg suitable for children?
Brownsberg can definitely be visited with children and we have welcomed many families on this tour before. However, it is good to know that the hike to the waterfalls can be quite challenging: approximately 1 hour downhill followed by around 1 hour uphill, with some steep sections. A reasonable basic fitness level is therefore recommended.
