Kabalebo – Program Overview & Activities
The daily programs are flexible and should be regarded as examples of how your stay may be organized.
NOTES:
- Daily programs are not fixed.
- They are intended to provide an indication of the activities that may take place during your stay.
- Program 1 (BWKW Rapids Trail & Boat Trip) is a fixed excursion and cannot be altered.
Program 1: BWKW Rapids Trail & Boat Trip
You will depart from Zorg & Hoop Airport in Paramaribo on a flight of approximately one hour to Kabalebo, located west of Paramaribo. The airstrip is situated next to the resort. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the management team and assisted with check-in. After an orientation tour and lunch, you will prepare for a 1.5-hour jungle walk to the BWKW Rapids.
This excursion combines hiking and a traditional dugout canoe (korjaal) trip. In the afternoon, you will drift back to the Main Lodge while enjoying the surrounding nature, birdlife and sounds of the rainforest. Dinner is served in the evening, featuring delicious Surinamese dishes prepared by the resort’s chef. After dinner, the activities for the following day will be discussed, after which you may relax on the spacious veranda or in your hammock.
Program 2: Kilo 3 Creek
After breakfast, you will quietly drift by canoe to Kilo 3 Creek. From there, you will take a scenic jungle walk to the Kilo 3 Rapids. Lunch will be served at the rapids, where you can also relax and enjoy the creek.
In the afternoon, you will return to the Main Lodge, where you can unwind in a hammock, enjoy the swimming pool, or relax on the riverside pier. In the evening, a traditional Surinamese dinner will be served, followed by an overview of the next day’s activities.
Program 3: Misty Mountain Summit (Long Trail)
After breakfast, you will embark on a challenging jungle hike of approximately 6.5 hours to the summit of the 500-meter-high Misty Mountain. Along the way, your guide will share information about the area’s flora and fauna. You may encounter howler monkeys, blue-and-yellow macaws, the Screaming Piha, frogs and butterflies.
At the summit, you will enjoy spectacular views of the untouched tropical rainforest, the resort and the mysterious mountain ranges of southern Suriname. Lunch will be served at the top before beginning the descent. On the return journey, you will visit Charlie Falls, where you can relax before returning to the lodge.
Program 4: Charlie Falls
After breakfast, you will take a jungle hike of approximately four hours to Charlie Falls, located at the foot of Misty Mountain. Along the trail, your guide will provide information about the rainforest ecosystem.
Upon arrival, you can relax by the falls while enjoying your lunch. After returning to the lodge, you may cool off in the swimming pool or unwind in a hammock before dinner.
Program 5: Bivouac Camp & Kayaking Adventure
After breakfast, you will begin a 2.5-hour hike from the base of Misty Mountain to the bivouac camp. After a short break, you will continue by boat to Sand Creek, a journey of approximately 45 minutes through a landscape with vegetation distinct from the areas previously visited.
Lunch will be served near a beautiful rapid where you can swim and relax. In the afternoon, you will kayak back to the Main Lodge. The evening concludes with a delicious Surinamese dinner.
Program 6: Beechcraft Trail (Long Trail, Approximately 4 Hours)
After breakfast, the excursion begins at the site of a crashed Beech G18S aircraft. Your guide will explain the history behind the Beechcraft Trail.
The route passes through hilly and rocky terrain. Lunch will be enjoyed beside a small creek before continuing the hike back to the Main Lodge. The remainder of the afternoon can be spent relaxing by the pool or in a hammock.
Program 7: Moi Moi Waterfall
After breakfast, you will travel to the base of Misty Mountain before beginning an educational rainforest walk to Moi Moi Waterfall. During the hike, your guide will further expand on your knowledge of the tropical rainforest and its ecosystem.
Upon arrival at the waterfall, you will have ample time to enjoy the surroundings and relax. Lunch will be served at the falls. In the afternoon, you will return to the Main Lodge by boat.
Program 8: Was Wasie Rapids
After breakfast, you will depart by traditional canoe for the Was Wasie Rapids. The boat journey takes approximately 2.5 hours and offers excellent opportunities to enjoy the rainforest scenery and observe wildlife.
Upon arrival, you can swim and relax in the rapids while enjoying your lunch. In the afternoon, you will return to the Main Lodge, with additional opportunities for wildlife spotting along the river.
Program 9: Kayaking Adventure
On your final day, you will enjoy breakfast before participating in one last adventure: kayaking.
You will first be transported upstream by canoe to Krong Soela, where you will transfer into a kayak and paddle downstream back to the Main Lodge. As you glide along the river, you can take in the sounds, scents and beauty of the rainforest one last time.
After lunch, it will be time to say farewell to Kabalebo before boarding your flight back to Paramaribo.

Transport & Prices
Transportation from your accommodation to Zorg & Hoop Airport is not included. You may arrange this yourself, or we can arrange it for you. Please indicate your preference when booking the tour.
- Transportation: Aircraft
- Check-in time is 10:30 AM at Gum Air, Zorg & Hoop Airport.
- Departure time is between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM from Gum Air, Zorg & Hoop Airport.
- Upon return from Kabalebo, you will arrive back at Zorg & Hoop Airport between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM.

River Cabins (with Air Conditioning)
The River Cabins are located about 15 minutes’ walk from the Main Lodge, next to the river. There are three cabins, each with two single beds, air conditioning, a bathroom with shower and toilet with hot and cold running water, a minibar, and a terrace. Each cabin has its own balcony and a private staircase to the river.

These four family suites are about a 5-minute walk from the Main Lodge, near the pool and Inspiration Point. Each suite accommodates up to four guests, perfect for families, groups, or individual travelers. The most luxurious accommodation at Kabalebo Nature Resort, Inspiration Point offers breathtaking views of Misty Mountain. Enjoy complete privacy while being immersed in the sights and sounds of nature. Inspiration Point is adjacent to the pool and just a 2-minute walk from the Main Lodge.

How do I get to Kabalebo?
Kabalebo is one of Suriname's most remote destinations and can only be reached by plane. The flight from Paramaribo takes approximately 75 minutes and offers breathtaking views of vast rainforests, winding rivers and untouched wilderness. The journey itself is already a unique experience.
Where is Kabalebo located?
Kabalebo is located in western Suriname, in the heart of a vast and virtually uninhabited nature reserve. Thanks to its remote location, visitors can experience the Amazon rainforest in its purest form, far away from the modern world.
Can I see wildlife during my stay?
Yes. Kabalebo is an excellent destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Various bird species, monkeys, reptiles and other wildlife are regularly spotted in the area. As these are wild animals, sightings can never be guaranteed.
Is Kabalebo suitable for families?
Yes, Kabalebo is suitable for families who enjoy nature and adventure. Please note that some activities require a moderate level of physical fitness.
How long should I stay in Kabalebo?
The most popular packages are 4 days/3 nights and 5 days/4 nights. Longer stays can also be arranged.
Can I go fishing in Kabalebo?
Yes, Kabalebo is an excellent destination for sport fishing enthusiasts and nature lovers. The rivers surrounding the resort are home to a variety of fish species, including piranha, anjoemara (peacock bass), aimara and several catfish species.
What happens if it rains during my stay?
Kabalebo can be visited year-round. Most activities continue as planned during rainy weather. If hiking trails become less accessible due to weather conditions, the program may be adjusted. In such cases, some hikes may be replaced with additional boat trips or other nature-based activities.
During periods of heavy rainfall, the climb to Misty Mountain is generally not offered for safety reasons. The lodge and guides will provide suitable alternatives to ensure you can continue to enjoy the natural surroundings.
