Palawa Island (Palumeu)

Palawa Island is about a fifteen-minute boat ride from Palumeu, accessible by a korjaal (a traditional boat) along the river. On the island, you can relax by having lunch or lounging in a hammock. You can also see a plane wreck that crashed here in 1959. For the adventurous, there is the opportunity to swim among the piranhas in the river.

Authentic Encounter

The indigenous tribes Trio and Wajana are some of the oldest inhabitants of the Amazon region. They have lived in harmony with nature for generations and have a deep connection with the rainforest.

The Trio and Wajana are known for their craftsmanship, especially in handmade handicrafts. They produce beautiful artworks such as wood carvings, weaving, baskets, and jewelry with traditional and symbolic meanings.

Their profound knowledge of the surrounding nature allows them to live sustainably, relying on natural resources for food, medicine, and materials for their daily lives.

Despite influences from the modern world, the indigenous tribes strive to preserve their traditional lifestyle and culture while being open to visitors to share and preserve their heritage.

Meeting the Indigenous people offers a unique opportunity to learn about their way of life, traditions, cultural heritage, and their special relationship with the natural environment in which they live.
