Welcome to Suriname! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Paramaribo, where you can relax and prepare for an amazing journey through the country. Enjoy an evening walk or dive into the culture of the capital.

Day 2: Paramaribo – Travel to Apoera via Indigenous Villages
Today your adventure towards West Suriname begins! Along the way, we pass through indigenous villages and make plenty of stops to experience the typical Surinamese “nospang” atmosphere. For lunch, we stop at Witagron, a Maroon village, after which the journey continues through various creeks and bridges, deep into the jungle to Apoera (an indigenous village on the western border with Guyana). You will spend the next 3 nights in a simple accommodation here.
- Travel Distance: 360 km / approx. 12 hours (depending on road conditions, it may take longer)

- Accommodation: Simple 2-person room (guesthouse style) without air conditioning, possibly with a fan, and shared bathroom & toilet
- Special Notes: Please note that part of the road is laterite, which can be bumpy with large potholes, especially during the rainy season (people with regular back issues or motion sickness may experience discomfort, though we stop several times along the way)
Day 3: Apoera – Blanche Marie
Today you will visit the impressive Blanche Marie Waterfalls, with a width of 120 meters – one of the largest waterfalls in Suriname, discovered in 1897 by Corstiaan van Drimmelen, then District Commissioner of Nickerie. The waterfalls are located in the Nickerie River in the remote Bakhuis Mountains.
During the trip, the guide will tell you about the rich flora and fauna of this pristine area. Around the waterfalls, there are several natural jacuzzis where you can enjoy a relaxing water massage. After this special visit, you will return to Apoera.

Day 4: Kaboeri Creek
In the morning, you will visit the historic railway line “Somewhere to Nowhere,” originally built to transport bauxite from the Bakhuis Mountains. Afterward, we will visit the indigenous village Klein Kwamala, where you will learn about the culture of the Arawaks and the Trios. You can take a village walk and gain a unique insight into the customs and traditions of these tribes.
In the afternoon, we enjoy a boat trip on Kaboeri Creek, famous for its beautiful flora and fauna. With some luck, we may spot the giant otters that inhabit the area.

Day 5: Apoera – Nickerie
Today, you will enjoy a beautiful boat trip on the wide border river with Guyana, heading northeast to the rice district of Nickerie. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to explore Nieuw Nickerie, the main town of the district. Take a walk along the Seawall, which evokes memories of the Netherlands, and visit the Hindu temple by the sea for a unique cultural experience.

- Special Notes: The boat trip from Apoera to Nickerie takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the water level. Upon arrival in Nickerie, you will be transported to the hotel by taxi.
Day 6: Nickerie – Bigi Pan
Start the day with breakfast and then head to the fascinating nature reserve Bigi Pan, a protected wetland of 68,000 hectares. This unique area, meaning “Great Lake,” is known for its impressive bird species, including the iconic red ibis and flamingo. During a captivating boat trip, you will explore the area and reach a cozy lodge on the water where you will stay overnight. In the evening, you can join a caiman spotting session under a clear starry sky, led by an experienced guide.

Day 7: Bigi Pan – Berlijn
Start the day early and enjoy a breathtaking sunrise at Bigi Pan. In the morning, you can relax with a kayak trip or a fishing outing. After lunch, the journey continues through three remarkable districts: Saramacca, Coronie, and Para. Each district has its own unique character due to its authentic culture and economic activities. In Berlijn, your final destination, you will stay for the next two nights.
